Landowner?

Latest news: my Chinese Bible student, Mr. Wang, is going back to China next week. :( His work here was temporary and so now he returns home. We will have completed six full chapters in the Bible Teach book by then. We do an entire chapter every Sunday afternoon for two hours. I have never seen anyone so spiritually hungry. He comes prepared and eagerly looks up every scripture. He buys me lunch at the restaurant when we meet for the study, which I think shows his appreciation.

He is almost on par with my other Chinese student, Mr. Liu, who completed five chapters in the Bible Teach book but then went to China, never to return. Mr. Liu, as I mentioned in a previous post, read half the Bible in only two months.

I told Mr. Wang what he is to expect about our work in China, so he is mentally prepared. He is the sort of person who I think could conceivably progress to baptism, as long as (and this is what I told him) he doesn't get distracted, especially by his work.

Well, I wish these students didn't have to go, but Jehovah will see to it that they get what they need spiritually. And we will find others here in Rwanda.

On another subject: a few months agoif you can believe thismy neighbor Bernard convinced me to buy some land here in Rwanda! There is this area about an hour from here where the city of Kigali ends and the Eastern Province starts, on the way to a place called Rwamagana. A road separates the city from the province. The terrain looks like most of Rwanda--hilly and green. There are houses on both sides of the main road, but for some reason the properties on the Kigali side are three to four times the price of those on the other side. So Bernard, who already owns a plot of land on the Eastern Province side, told me that vacant land is a good investmentmainly because the authorities are planning to build another road perpendicular to the main road and the area will eventually be developed. So the value of properties can double in a year!

So the piece of land I bought is 40 meters by 23 meters, at a price of about $1 a square meter. Here it is only about two months later, and there is a brother who wants to buy my land at about 25% more than what I paid! Actually, I want to wait awhile before sellingat least a year, or I urgently need the money.

Never thought I would own land, especially in Africa!

Here are some photos of it:

  1. Wow. I never thought you would say you were a landowner but I always thought you had Africa in your blood....so it makes sense you have found your "Tara"....at least until you need some money.

  2. You need to hum the song to Green Acres and pose with a pitchfork.
